Muffler tips

What is it with muffler tips? You can see a lot of cars with huge muffler tips that produces noise you can hear 3 blocks away. I've read an article once that having a larger exhaust pipe could actually help the engine a bit because the large exhaust pipe and muffler helps the engine by letting out the exhaust a lot easier. The engine doesn't need to force the exhaust out anymore.

But then I also read a lot of articles claiming that these changes does not affect the car whatsoever other than just making a lot of noise. I don't get it. Although I have to admit having a slightly larger muffler tip does look a bit better than a small one.

Whatever the reason may be, it does help the overall look of the car. Regardless of being able to help the car become faster or not.

Actually, the larger exhaust harms the backpressure the motor depends on to run efficently. And its not tips, they are entire "muffler" assemblies with the tip as one unit.
